Siam's transformation

Siam, 19th century. The country is in an insecure situation. Through the colonial powers Great Britain and France the independence is endangered. While all the neighboring countries of the land fall victim to colonization, Siam can defend it’s independence against the strong pressure from outside. Thanks to King Chulalongkorn.
During his term, he implemented unusually modern reforms, which were implemented in all essential areas of society. Siam, as Thailand was called at that time, is now a modern, independent state. Without King Chulalongkorn, the country, like it’s neighbors, would probably have lost it’s independence. The ruler did not make his country a strong great nation by war, but by progress.
The documents showing this change are part of UNESCO's »Memory of the World«-programme. The animated film tells the story behind them.
